Depends upon the rate of the hitch, but in my searches, no one in the U.S. want to sell anything but a class I. I use mine to pull a trailer that may carry some branches to the compost site. I would say that you should not be lugging more that 500 lb.We have put the Mercedes back on the road, tho' it is not pretty, (we got a bad paint job).
I can build a strong hitch, but am not sure of the towing ability.
Used to drive logging trucks in the mountains, in rain and on ice, so spare me the obvious, we know how to use the transmission. What is your opinion about max towing weight with trailer brakes, and max tongue weight?
