I took the dashboard speaker grille off the 1982 240D and discovered this nice, dual range (two voice coils & cones !) speaker ~ no wonder the old Kenwood CD player used to sound so crisp and clear before one of my long gone Foster boys messed it all up by adjusting the stereo to play rapcrap .
It had quite a bit of accumulated dust and rotted away fabric in it, I used an acid brush and soft tissue to loosen the munge up then blew repeatedly on it until it was all clean again

.Getting the forward clip of the plastic grille back into it's hole was really tough, I was using a small crowbar to hold it down as I installed the single screw, that corner kept popping up a little bit until I broke the hooked tab _off_ then it stood proud of the dash by about 9MM

.The original screw was gone missing and I found the correct one that's hidden when it's installed in a junked car ~ I'm trying hard to fix all the various little niggly things in this car .
In addition to the FUGLY wrong screw sticking up in my direct view, the corner that's now 9MM high, was worse, better when I first re installed it but I wanted it *perfect* . Now I know better and have to go find another unbroken speaker grille

.?Does anyone know how good these speakers actually are ? .
This one is slightly smaller that the original one, maybe I can find the same dual coil/cone thing in the exact size and get better sound......
I hate to go away from stock but if it sounds better I'll do it .
? Thoughts please ? .
