My cold starting drill........... Plug in block heater for a couple hours. Then start just like summer. Works every time. Max

FWIW ;

Mercedes has a very specific cold weather starting drill, few ever follow it .

The easiest thing to do is wait for the seatbelt lamp to quit, it stays on slightly longer than does the glow plug lamp .

Remember too : the glow plug lamp goes out before the glow plugs stop heating, it's worth your time to listen and learn when the loud " CLICK " indicating the relay has stopped and only engage the starter *just* before it goes CLICK .

It's starting to feel very much like winter here in Wisconsin. The 77
240D has been behaving well, starting after about 6 or 8 revs while
catching cylinders every morning. Tonight will be the first one under 20
degF.
