Re: [diesel_mercedes] Engine shut off issue with all else OK.-found it.

OK, I found the leak, which seems to have nothing to do with the shop guys today.

On the 300D CA '85, there's vacuum line that attaches to the front of the turbo, that has a switch near the glowplug relay, which seems to be the source of the leak.

I capped it off there, and the car shuts off fine.

Looking at a vacuum diagram, that switch is a "Switchover valve, vacuum converter", and the vacuum line at the turbo goes to an "Air recirculating valve"

I'll see if I can find this "Switchover valve, vacuum converter" and pickup a bunch of new vacuum connectors/ hose. I wonder if Brian has these things.

Thanks Mark for getting me started.

OK, I pulled that line, behind the ALDA, and put vacuum on it, from a handheld squeeze vacuum tool, and the engine stopped right away.

I'm now assuming it's something loose or damaged under the dash.

Hey,

I just got my car back from the suspension shop, with new lower ball
joints and drag link, which really tightened up everything.

Unfortunately, I'll assuming they bumped something, as the car won't
shut off now. No issues beforehand.

Any other time I'd had shut off issues, it was either the door locks, or
some hose got unattached under the hood.

This time, the locks work fine, the tranny shifts as it should, and no
hose looks unattached under the hood.

What should I look at next?

Thanks

Vacuum for the shutoff valve on the back of the injector pump is supplied from a valve mounted on the ignition switch. Perhaps you could start at the shutoff valve, trace that tube to the back of the switch. Vacuum source is the second tube found there. It could be that the valve has simply failed. Turn the key off, pull the hose off the shutoff valve, put your thumb over it. You should feel vacuum.
