Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: New to group

Oh wow....  It's a '77!  This car would benefit greatly by installing the parallel, pencil-tip conversion:

I performed this modification to the '77 300D I had a few years ago.  It went from being the hardest car to start, to the best, quickest diesel-engined car I've ever owned, even on the coldest days here.  I used the Diesel Giant kit.  A bit pricey, for sure, but it made such a difference that I was more miffed at myself for not doing it sooner than for paying a high price.  Well worth it!

Hi Bill,
I have sent out several messages to the list, first through my regular email utility (Thunderbird), then through the Charter webmail, and finally on the group page. So far, that is the only one that has gotten through. I have retyped my info several times! Very frustrating.
So here goes again, on the group page. I have a 1977 W123 240D with series glow plugs and the metal relay under the dash. I just bought the car a few months ago and need to get the bugs out of it.
I'm beginning to realize that the car had fairly good cosmetic workover on it shortly before I bought it, and he did a few major things, but he seems to have ignored the basic condition of the engine. Well, that's fine. We can fix that, right?
I think I need to replace every filter. Three tries and then a stumbling start, no smoke. Since fiddling with the relay, that seems better, though the blade fuse looks corroded and I think it would be a smart thing to put a fresh one in.
