This intrigues me a bit.Based on the oily crud in the old thermostat (which was only 3 years old), I am thinking I may have some blobkage - but the drained coolant and water looked fine. I suspect I may try a back flush and pull the bottom hose off before I get too excited - just to make sure the water pump is circulating water through the system which I don't think is happening right now.
