Good morning ! .
We saddled up the 1984 European Spec. 300TD , managed somehow to fit _six_ people and their luggage all inside the car and headed out .
Traffic was O.K. , heavy in points but moved right along for the most part .
The car had plenty of power even fully loaded , I kept it a little bit over 60 MPH , passing mostly only Big Rigs now and then .
We stopped only twice and made it into Las Vegas on the tank fill I'd put in Thursday 12/17 , getting 25.7 MPG
I'd run it to the low fuel light on because the previous fillup showed some crud in the clear plastic intake screen :

I had brought a spare one and changed it at the pump island thanx to the nice Lady who loaned me a pair of screwdrivers .
The preivious tank full returned 26 MPG so it appears I'm getting the same mileage fully loaded with six passengers on the open road as I do empty in town .
No fuel additives used .
Heater works fine , didn't use any engine oil , etc. etc. .
I could have made this trip @ 100 + MPH but Shirley doesn't like anything over 60 .
A door check decided to begin sticking badly , I almost couldn't get the front Passenger door closed last night so I bought some aerosol white lithium grease to shoot in there to - day and when Tom arrives later to - day we'll go hunting for another one and install it , is a simple job , he carries tools and we're here for a week so it'll keep me busy =8-) .
