things wiggle and move.....and when tightened, casing can move some, too.
even a broken wire leading to the pump, moves every time you mess with
it......and, can lose connection.
maybe try hot wiring it, direct to the battery (in line fuse/breaker)
and bypass the wiring harness altogether? a manual switch,just for testing?
