The first time or two you do this it makes you (me anyway) crazy .
The bolts much be removed off the car , there's a tube shaped spacer that you cannot see on one bolt , it will fall out and be a serious PIA to get back into place .
This is why I always suggest replacing the brushes , it's *much* easier and usually better quality parts if you use the BOSH one .
Take a rest , this is ' Hitler's Revenge ' , in time you'll get it done .

I am ready to burn this piece of beep!! 1984 300 D Trying to install the alternator. It is like the piece of garbage is bound up in the bracket. Cannot move it forward or back. Through bolts on the bottom is completely loose. Adjuster bolt is completely loose. The alternator will not rotate at all in the bracket. Any suggestions.
