Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Window Switch Service

I believe the flasher relay on the W123s is located in the center console. It may be part of the hazard switch.

Bad turn signals do not cause the windows to not operate, or visey-versey.  The electrical systems on these cars, if anything, are much MORE robust than most any other cars.  Not a computer or even integrated circuit to be found anywhere to keep the car from being drivable (just in the radio, maybe the glow-plug relay, AC/heater controls and cruise control).  Individual components (alternator, switches, etc.) are rebuildable, and the whole system is EMP-proof, so, should the Iranians or Uncle Vlad detonate their nuclear device over the country to knock out the grid, rendering every other car on the road useless, you'll still be able to start up and drive.  The engine doesn't need electricity to run, only to start.  (Even then, the pre-'81's, at least, are push-startable!)

Sounds like you don't have the Haynes manual for your car.  They're still available:

You can find them on ebay for less than list price ($26.95).  They may also turn up on craigslist if you live in an area where MB diesels were popular both when new and now (like SoCal).  They're a must-have if you want to keep working on the car yourself, and yes, they DO have schematics in the very back....

Is the flasher unit directly behind the cluster? and is it identical to the two items on the driver fender well right in front of the fuse box and covered by a little black snap off cover?

If it is then yes I picked out the turn signal lever and that little silver box that I just discribed. and tried them both in my car but it didn't help so I replaced with my parts.

I havn't messed with the passenger rear window or the antenne.
Is the electrical system so fragal that a non working passenger rear window switch could brake the circut for blinkers, hazard etc?

Sure could use a wiring diagram of the car.
