there are a couple of tests you can do with one , primarily you're looking for the injector not beginning to spray before a certain pressure and it spraying out a perfectly even fog of fuel when it does pop .

Many ' rebuilt ' injectors will spray a tiny stream of fuel , this is a bad thing .

Then , you bounce the pressure handle to produce *just* below the desired pop pressure whilst watching the face of the injector for weeps , seeps or dibbles out the tip , this is called ' drooling ' and is waste full of fuel and creates grey / black exhaust smoke .

Many years ago there was a very nice Dentist in Sta. Monica on this very list who made a nice DIY tester out of an old bottle jack and used a belt sander to machine the pressure discs , he was able to get his injectors within 3 # of the pressure spec. ~ the closer they are as a set , the smoother and more powerfully your engine will run .

It is important t use Diesel fuel or similar when POP testing because you're gauging based on a specific viscosity in the liquid fuel .

P-A-P Junkyards have been getting in less and less Diesel Mercedes of any stripe so when you see them , grab what you need ! .

Nate, have you used a pop tester before?

My wife's new to us '85 Volvo 240 needs to get the whole suspension kit
I took off our smashed Volvo, as well as other work. The smashed '86
Volvo is still sitting in the driveway, as I'm still pulling parts, and
may look for one with a blown engine and swap.
