Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: 300D Hard Starting

My son in law has been driving it so I'm not sure about the oil. Don't think it uses much. Also don't think throttle is depressed unless it appears to not be starting. I will verify these q's. One thing I have not done is verify the glow plug wiring harness. Power may not be getting to the plugs. The glow light does go off before attempting to start, but after car is started, it comes back on and stays on.  Ever seen that?  Thanks for the ideas.

Do you wait until the glow plug light goes out before cranking it ? .

Do you touch the throttle ? .

Does the engine use much oil ? .

The details are very important in getting a Diesel to start easily .

83 300D hard starting. May start on first try, may take several. Outside temp does seem to make a difference.

Once started, runs outstanding. Will easily start again if still warm.

Changed glow plugs. Person I bought car from claimed to have cleaned the carbon from prechamber. About 50,000 miles since then.

Swaped glow plug switch with known working.

Adjusted valves.

Ran through 2 bottles of diesel clean, returning fluid really not that dirty.

New heavy duty battery.

New primer pump.

Good fuel flow from the tank.

Any ideas?
