O.K. ;
This morning @ 0-Dark:30 I hopped on the NB Harbor Freeway and pinned the throttle , the engine slowly revved until I was barely going 75 MPH on the flat and labored heavily on any up slope so when the sun came up I replaced the Secondary Fuel Filter , filling it with MMO before screwing it back into place .
Interestingly there wasn't a whole lot of the black fungusy crud inside the filter like there was last time I changed it .
Then I washed the engine one last time and the Diesel Smoot off the Cove and washed all four wheels (when I go on a Road Rally I like to begin with a _clean_ vehicle !) , let it dry as I cleaned the driveway then took it up on the I-210 freeway for a high speed test drive ~ as I pulled away from my house it chirped the tires going into second gear so I knew it was better , flying down the On Ramp @ 2/3 throttle and watching 95 MPH come up prettydamnquick I realized that once again , I have more dirty fuel problems than anyone I've ever met .
Now , I can give Tony another life shortening ride like before .
Remember : if your translucent primary fuel screen is dark or has crud in it , change it _AND_ the secondary spin on fuel filter at the same time ! .
After a good flogging , I popped the hood to blow the accumulated leaves out of the hood hinge pockets and check for fuel leaks , everything is as dry as a bone so apparently all is well .
To - morrow I'm off on the annual Carrera California through the Anza Borrego Desert , home to 1,000' drop offs on blind curves with no guard rails ~ Tom had been hoping I'd not fix it so 'd be slow again but no ! =8-) .
