well it only does it on the 3rd try when starting in the cold. Maybe the battery is too low at this point. Also I don't have the proper battery with the proper cold cranking amps.. You could have a place on the flywheel that is missing a tooth. If the starter gear finds that spot, it’ll whir but has nothing to grab and turn the flywheel by. It could be that the starter gear is not going forward enough to engage the flywheel. This could be a weak starter solenoid, or a battery that is getting low.
