Turning the journals is not that hard, the crankshaft is being cut out of a solid piece, so you make a fixture, or use a four jaw chuck, to hold the piece with the journal centered, at the chuck, and either a similar fixture or just a spot for a live center at the tailstock. The workpiece spins way off center except for the journal being turned.
PS knowing how it is done, and being able to do it are not the same.
