Well ;
It appears I'm rushing things , first Tom's rockerbox gasket then I opened up my air cleaner this morning to find the reason it rattles so loudly is : I left a 3" 3/8" extension in there ! .
Apparently I also ran short of rubber buffers the last time I replaced them as two were noticeably newer than the one that broke so I only replaced the one broken one , all the while maveling at how clean and dry my engine appears ~ all those niggly little O-Rings , gaskets and so on , have finally paid off ! .
It's *so* clean and dry , I see some minor rust forming , a rare thing in my limited Diesel experience .
As Tom was working and my Son went off to visit his InLaws , I spooled up the old bus and headed up the world famous Ca. Rt. 2 , The Angeles Crest Highway where it's foggy and misting , temps slightly above freezing so no snow nor ice .
I kept the window open for the fresh air and the heater on full , the temp. gauge kept varying between 79* C and 60* C , at the same time the dash vet's thermometer varied from 122* F to 144.9* F .
I didn't dare go over 45 MPH as who knows when ice or snow might be around the next corner , the Subaru Legacy fell in behind me and occasionally caught up enough for me to see his headlights .
Stopping at Newcombs Ranch I had an entirely underwhelming omlet and some nasty , bitter coffee , fiddled with the dead illuminated wreath a bit before giving up on it , my heart just isn't into it so I'll hang it unlit , what the hey .
Having a surfeit of power is nice most of the time , knowing when to ease off the loud pedal is better .
