Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : Idle rough at traffic lights

The symptoms Trish mentions were similar to those requiring the replacement of the damper bolt on my 300D, but I'd check to existing to see if the original is still installed; in my case, it was the original.

I was able to eliminate the shaking at idle temporarily, in the same manner...by raising the rpms a bit. In my case, the shaking would not start  until the car was at idle for a few seconds and warm; presumably, the time it takes for pressure to equalize behind the damper bolt. Initially, I thought is was a bad motor mount and I replaced them, thinking that it was less complicated than replacing the rdb, but it did not solve the problem.

From what I understand, the spring in the rdb has its temper altered over time by repeated heating, cooling and fatigue.

A few years back, there were several threads about this.

Maybe you just need to turn it (the idle) up a little bit.  Does the tach(ometer) work?  Do you know where it's idling at now?

'Could be it just needs that rack bolt, as mentioned by someone smarter 'n me here earlier....

And on the idle...it doesn't do it all the time and not if I move it to neutral or park, or keep my foot on the accelerator a tiny bit.
