I can't see why grass clipings,pruned shrubbery,vegetable matter in garbage ins'nt used to brew alcohol.And how about human waste and animal waste turned into methane or liquid fuels

Blaming ethanol production for rising food costs was an oil company scam. They want to slag ethanol and bio fuels at every opportunity.
The cause of higher corn prices was the higher cost of petro fuel for farm tractors, delivery and building heating costs.

Having said that, corn is not a good feedstock for ethanol, sugar is much better but cannot be grown very far from the tropics.
