I know exactly where the leak is..the main seal. I've always known. There's nothing I can do about it. I'll keep putting oil in till I can get another MB and I'll part this one out.
Trish,DO NOT PANIC! (credit to Douglas Adams)Your chickens are covered in oil. That means a LEAK, not bad rings, bearings, turbo or anything else.We DO NOT KNOW what you have, but you don't say that it's smoking out the back, so let's concentrate on finding the LEAK.Keep filling it up (yes, this is expensive, both in money and environmental damage). When you have the time, get it up on a lift or on high jack stands (NOT a jack; NOT cinder blocks or 2x4s - Jack STANDS). Then look around. Clean everything and find where the oil is coming out.The way you describe it, it sounds like volumes, so it is probably going to be pretty clear.Good luck on the interview. I hope that you get the job. When you get the time, get under the car, find the leak and deal with it. The engine is NOT going to blow up because you are pouring in new oil every day or two. Letting the oil get too low will be a problem.USE SYNTHETIC OIL. It's much more expensive. But it clings to parts much better, so you will have less damage from the oil getting too low. The extra expense may mean the difference between low oil damage and dodging that bullet.Cordially,TomIn a message dated 5/24/2012 3:47:23 P.M. I'm pretty sure the previous owner ran low on oil. It will be okay until you accelerate, stop, or go up or down a hill
The oil will move forwards or back, leaving the front or back lower rod bearings dry. You will spin the bearings, tearing them out and slapping the lower rod/caps on the crankshaft. Your new engine will sound like your old one.... Until the rod goes thru the block
If I was Kevin, I wouldn't swap the engine again.
Keep checking the oil every time.

I put the last 2 qts of oil in, nothing showing on dip stick, but pressure gauge was fine. Town is 10 miles...I have a 2nd job interview later today that I really, really need to get to.
I know in the past I've been told on here that if the gauge shows pressure I'm OK.
Would YOU drive the ten miles to town?
