There isn't such a switch on my '81.  I usually start it in neutral with my foot off the clutch.

Is there supposed to be a neutral safety switch equivalent on a manual transmission car such that the starter will only run with the clutch depressed? The Haynes book seems to think so and I haven't cracked the Mercedes book, but I don't think mine has.
