That's a good question!
 
If I'd spend $3-4K on my 87 instead of selling it, it would have been it excellent shape (albeit not showroom) and good for another 100-200K+ miles as I'd already replaced most of the usual stuff (timing chain, vacuum pump, motor mounts, brakes, exhaust shocks, etc., etc.,) over a 3 year period.  An aquaintance got 493K out of his 87 300D, then pulled the motor for use as a backup generator.  Engine was still strong, but body rusted out around it.
 
What would it cost to make this one in showroom condition?  $3850?
