Body/interior basically the same, but the diesel will have a much longer life. I see them occasionally in local yards, but 175-220K is about the most I've ever seen on one. I've seen several 300E (6 cyl gas) with 300Kplus by comparision.
MB did not sell a 300D in the US in 1988, so double-check the year and/or model, as there was 190D available.
Just sold my 1987 300D - was a great road car, very fast compared to earlier diesel models, but needed minor rust work and a complete paint job. New owner is shipping it to Italy. Just bought a 1991 300D 2.5. Has same power as 87, but even better fuel mileage. 33.1 MPG first tank, with A/C on most of the time.
A dealer here in my area has this 1988 560 SEL on the lot.
They say that it is a one owner has 202k.The car is real clean.
Has a nice shine no rust. They are asking $3850.
Would this car make a good driver?
Are they reliable at this age like the diesel?
Is there a lot of maintenance to keep them in shape?
They also said that they would have a 300D 1988 in about a week and
will ask 2900 for it.
Thanks for any advise
Oh I now have an 1987 300D good driver.
