In the Mechanical Parlance this is called " flaring " and leads to rapid wearing of the $pendy bit$ inside your slushbox .

First , I'd check the vacuum hoses connected to the primary black plastic vacuum pipe as they're different , one is 0.6 M and t'other is 0.5 M , sounds close but connecting the tranny shifting vacuum hose to the 0.5 M one stopped all the flaring in SWMBO's '82 240D .

The way the vacuum valves work is : as you give it more throttle , it cuts down the vacuum signal to the tranny ~ ideally when the throttle is floored is goes to zero vacuum at the tranny or really close to it

I discovered this basic mistake after I'd paid a long time Indie M-B Mechanic to sort it out ~ he'd made a world of improvement but missed this basic step .
