[diesel_mercedes] Re : Glow Plug Timer Relays

Agreed , 34 years & 400,000 miles is a very good part life indeed .so another used one should do the truck , when we/I/you find one .

Tom and I went Yard Walking Sunday and there were precious few Diesels there , lotsa Gasser W-126's though .

I saw  one or two late relays but you said you're using series system , correct ? .

Interestingly , when I had GP relay troubles last year , I dug out my various used relays and played musical relay game with two cars and only had to toss out one or maybe two relays , the others all seemed to respond from just being touched , not even opened so I wonder if maybe the Pin typ MPC's get corrosion that needs periodic cleaning to keep them at peak efficiency ? .

Yes I took it apart & got rid of the big volcano on the contacts.  However I
think it's the capacitors that went bad.  34 years and 400k miles is plenty of
time for it to live.  Instead of tearing apart the board and putting new
capacitors which BTW is just a guess.  It's probably just cheaper and easier to
find the original relay and count to ten.  I've seen them with the old style
glow plugs for 101 dollars.  I just need the relay as I"ve gone to the fast
parallel plugs.   Think a used one will last a while?  Really don't mind if the
new ones are built as well as the old ones.  400k and 34 years is good for any
part. Lawrence Rhodes....
