I was going through the procedure for changing the vacuum shutoff valve on diesel-giant. They say that to prevent runaway diesel, take off the air pipe from the turbo to the intake, and put a spraycan cap on it to cutoff air to the intake to shutoff the engine. The cap supposedly fits perfectly on the intake inlet. I tried four caps, they all fit well, but only one worked. That one I am saving! The others were prolly leaking air somewhere into the intake.
Point being, I guess, to try a cap and see if it actually fits and works, before you have to use it in an emergency.
