Re: [Diesel-RVs] Re: Cumins C8.3 300 DIY oil change

Dean,
I always tell the tech how much oil the engine holds with the added statement that the oil pan on a motor home is smaller than on a truck engine. I also stand there and watch them put the oil in. If they use the oill filler hose with the dial on it, I make sure they dial in the amount of oil while I watch. Then I look at the bill before I pay. Try Speedco, they are all over the US. www.speedco.com They will let you go down in the pit and watch if you want. For $25.00 more, they will perform an engine oil anaylsis for you. I get everything done including the oil anaylsis for about $180.00 including the filter upgrade on our ISL 400 engine. Chuck B

Fred and George, thanks for the confirming info. I feel much more
competent now.

I have considered the Fumoto Valve, but always forget about it until
the next six month oil change. Will order one today.

One of the reasons my oil changes cost too much at the service shops is
they were charging me for more oil than the engine apparently holds.
Not a big deal, but still more money in my pocket.
