[Diesel-RVs] Rid-X

It seems to me that people are misunderstanding what Rid-X does and
does not do in a Septic Tank.

It is for long-term use to build up friendly sewage digesting
bacteria. It would never sit long enough in a Black Tank to make any
difference.

Most RV treatments are good for odor control. Most RV-ers will fill
a black tank, in long term usage within 7 to 10 days anyway...in that
time Rid-X has not had enough of a duration to make enough bacteria,
if any, to make any difference in the break down of solids.

Here is what I have learned:

1. Use Septic safe toilet paper at least. Using RV toilet paper
has not been something we do because of number two and three below:

2. Mix a ton of water when flushing unless you do not have hook-ups.
In that way, you dilute the contents for far easier flushing.

3. If you have EX-Flush system, that introduces water into your black
tank, use it and use it long enough for your water to run nearly clear.

4. Every six months, take a cleaned paint pail (5 gallons) and
introduce this into your black tank with some digester. Drive it to
your campground and then dump. Or, you can use your EZ-Flush and
fill it but this is a dangerous way to fill your tank. Driving
around with fresh water in your tanks will really help keep them clean.

We use PineSol but I know there are folks here who think it is too
strong and I can understand that they buy into the RV industry's sales
pitch. To each their own.

6. Anyway, again, every six months, introduce a digester of some sort
and fill your tank full. This sometimes will clean up the tank
monitor contacts. I have heard all sorts of ideas about cleaning the
black tank including using rock salt, or ice, and then driving the rig
to clean them up. The salt idea seems novel but would it leave behind
remnants? I don't know....ice seems like a good idea.

PineSol, since I have used it, has cleaned our tank completely and we
never have water level sensor issues any longer.
