[Diesel-RVs] Re: 07 Toyota/Nitrogen

I think this is nonsense.

According to an article published in the Journal of the Brazilian
Chemical Society, the thermal conductivity of oxygen is 2.8 k (W/m
K)10(-3). And amazingly enough, the thermal conductivity of nitrogen
is 2.8 k(W/m K)10(-3). So guess what the thermal conductivity of air
is going to be. I would estimate that it is approximately the average
of those two numbers weighted by the percentage of each gas in air.

Another source cites:
Air 0.026
O2 0.027
N2 0.026

Once again, air and nitrogen exactly the same.

Yes, some gases do conduct heat better than others. As a retired steel
engineer, I'm familiar with using hydrogen in the atmosphere gas of
annealing furnaces.

Finally, for those still claiming air and nitrogen expand at different
rates, I pull out my old copy of the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and
Physics (a book I had forgotten was still in my library).

The Coefficient of Expansion of Gases at a Constant Volume (that fits
a tire perfectly);

Oxygen --- .003672
Nitrogen-- .003672
Air ------ .003665

All measured at the same temperature and pressure. Not a very big
difference, and if anything, it favors air.

So, Fred, I guess I did go back to school as you suggested. And guess
what? They're still teaching the same things I learned way back then.
