Hunting for cars…
I bought my first car when I was 13 years old. It was a 1928 model A pickup and I paid $20.00 for it. A few weeks after bringing it home an older gentlemen came up to me and asked " Sonny, would you be willing to sell the tail light. I will give you $25.00 for it. That one event "sparked" something in my head and is a key to what I am doing today…:-)
All through my high school years I "hunted" for old cars. I have many fond memories of driving down old dirt roads and walking up to dilapidated barns. Almost 60 years later I still enjoy going "on the hunt." Right up there with "creating a new product," this is the most enjoyable part of the work I do.
It has been a while, but just this past week I went on the hunt again and looked at three Mercedes and brought home two in two days. One big coupe was not worth it for the price. Of the two I brought home one car is worth saving, the other car not so much. But remember there is always value in high quality used parts. Maybe someone will give me $25.00 for one of the tail lights off the white car!

If you do go on the hunt yourself for an old diesel I have a couple quick tests you can do to keep from making a big mistake. Watch the video: https://youtu.be/Mhw7K7dNfW8
If you are thinking about getting a 1965 to 1985 diesel do it now. They are getting older, more tired, and harder to find in good condition. The nice ones are shooting up in value. When you bring home an old diesel the VERY first thing you will want to do is a full physical exam of the engine.. This is NUMBER ONE. Do not spend any more time or money on the car until you determine the engine is healthy. I have put together a "full physical exam kit" for the older 4 and 5 cylinder diesel engines. These will be on sale for a limited time. CLICK TO VIEW: https://mercedessource.com/store/search?onsale[0]=1
I will be doing a new series in the next couple weeks on "How to Kill a Diesel." Stay tuned. For all diesel parts, manuals, and repair kits click here: https://mercedessource.com/store/search?keys=diesel%20engine
Happy hunting and safe motoring always, Kent Bergsma
