They make coolant heaters you insert in the lower radiator hose, they work very well indeed and provide super fast heat too .

Avoid dipstick heaters at all costs and try to remember to always adjust your valves at the end of Summer as they're the # impediment to rapid cold starting .

But an easier thing  I do is to take about half a quart of engine oil, in a glass jar (old spaghetti sauce), heat in MW till it is very hot, and pour it into the engine oil crankcase. Dont know how much it helps, but I do this at v cold temps. MD rarely gets below zero.

Looked at all those alternatives to blockheater, eg dipstick heater etc.,but did not care for any of them. No mechanic wants to take on removing the old blockheater.

Has never given up, and still ultra reliable
