? Remember when I told you about how I never end having dirty fuel troubles ? .

When I left the  Las Vegas Pick-A-Part Junk Yard Monday, I had to stop and change the dirty intake fuel filters, both of them, the factory clear plastic screen and the micronic paper element one too ~ in frustration I decided to add yet another micronic filter to the fuel return ('cigar') hose in an attempt to catch fungus crud before it returns to the fuel tank ~ this necessitated some creativity with Junk Yard clamps and a crispy bit of used Diesel rated fuel hose Pic.# 1 .

After 400 miles we get Pic. # 2: both paper element filters are full of very fine particles, the clear plastic intake screen remains clear ~ I *think* this indicates I'm getting down to the finer particles, no coffee ground looking crud _this_ time . (hope springs eternal, right ?)

So I stopped this morning and bought some more 7MM paper element filters and 2 Meters (6') of correct, German made 7MM Diesel fuel hose, found a filling station with a clean bathroom and set to work Pic. #3 shows the Junk Yard special original hose clamp after it sat in a little bit of K100 Diesel treatment for 400 miles, it's clean as a whistle ~ I think I'll begin soaking all my used fuel parts in this stuff .

32 miles later we have Pic. # 4, filters look O.K. but it's only 32 miles, right ? *:-? thinking .

As long as I was filthy and sweaty I decided to wash the engine of leaked Diesel fuel because it attacks and destroys any and al rubber / plastic parts it contacts .

Might as well wash the dead Desert bugs off the windshield and backlight too, as long as I have the hose run out I decided to clean all found wheels again and the accumulated Diesel smoot off the cove, taillights and rear bumper.....

I see grey/black smoke in my rear view after most full stops, I assume this means an injector is drooling or popping at too low and pressure .

I also see light blue smoke once in a while when I'm running it hard or just get off the freeway and have to stop at the bottom of the off ramp .

I'm below 1/4 tank and will once again run the tank dry then my plan (remember : Man plans, God laughs *8-| rolling eyes)  is to hook up a gallon jug of Startron under the hood and run it on that, see if the fungus continues to come out, if so I'll know the injection pump is contaminated, if not, I'll know the main fuel tank will prolly have to be removed and cleaned ~ I recently cleaned all manner of rust and varnished 30 years old fuels out of an old VW gas tank using dilute Phosphoric Acid, maybe I'll give this Mercedes tank a go with it if it appears to have fungus in it .

Fun, right ? *:-B nerd .

Stay tuned, more fun is certain to come along shortly .
