Been there. Had a small Ford once that was a reincarnation of an England Wildcat, or some such.

Appeared that to meet U.S. crash tests they welded in a piece under the dash that made it impossible to get the heater core out.

  Unfortunately when they built the car, the first thing they used as a base for the assembly was the Heater core.
