[diesel_mercedes] Water Temp Woes

I had this issue on several Diesel Mercedes' when first I came to Diesels .

In time I discovered the tiny air bleed pipe leading between the cylinder head and block was clogged .

I tried drilling 3/16" holes in the thermostat flange but it'd still get up past 100° C and I know this is wrong except in Death Valley etc.

It took lots of hard work cleaning the cooling system with Citric Acid powder and distilled water before they began to behave .

Is it possible the M-B coolant was supposed to be diluted ? .

I assume you put the heater control on MAX before you re filled it ? .

There was nothing wrong with my engine temps, a rock steady 84C. But, I had this jug of MB Coolant laying around so I thought I would drain and replace the coolant. Well, after locking everything back up - my temps did not stop at 84C, they kept on going to 120+C. I have redrained, replaced the thermostat which did have gunk in it, and I am still hitting 120C. Anyone got any guesses before I start tearing things apart. The radiator is only 2 years old. No problems for several years until I drained the coolant.
