I worked on Tom's 1979 dodge D200 crew cab service bed truck all day Friday , getting it road worthy again and I need some help finding the fuel filler neck hose for it's Utility brand service bed ~ it needs to be flexible and flexible filler hose is like looking for chickens teeth .
Anyway , the primary complaint was poor running and being a 1979 there's a welter of vacuum hoses going here there and every where else under the hood , this old beast still needs SMOG testing and so far it's always passed so disconnecting / by passing / disabling the EGR valve etc. isn't an option .
I found many rotted and leaky vacuum hoses plus one 3/8" one (to the activated charcoal canister) simply fallen off the carby , in a Shop environment I'd simply reel off 25' of various sizes of fuel , vacuum and PCV hoses yes , they're all different) , grab a couple of handfuls of new spring hose clamps and get to work but here I have monetary constraints so I have to remove hoses , measure them out and go to the store and buy hopefully enough and trust the boob behind the parts counter sells me the correct size and typ of hose (he didn't , we had to go back) , then there's the fun of being crippled and climbing up then draping over the engine without leaning on the crispy long obsolete plastic radiator surge tank or myriad other delicate things.......
Just for giggles , try price checking some rolls of fuel hose , be sitting down when you do .
Whew . this isn't Old Man's work but I trust no one else to do it properly .
Of course , the battery was dead and for reason's beyond my control it remained so ever after being connected to a battery charger over night .
In the end I had to hand wash the battery and set up the (crusty badly in need of service, obviously NOT MINE) charger , I don't know when I'll get back to it , maybe this afternoon , maybe Sunday or Monday , I'm keen to hear it roar back into life again .
