It's that time of year again , time to do a routine valve adjustment to ease cold starting , one last HOT oil and filter change  , add some Diesel Kleen in the white bottle to prevent gelling , look closely at your clear plastic fuel intake screen , it should look like this :

Hm ; it flat refuses to be copied and pasted nor dragged but this is the intake screen in my '82 240D I've been struggling with fungus in since up grading the plastic 17 gallon fuel tank to  the (dirty & fungus filled) steel 21 gallon tank this Summer .

Apparently I have won that battle for now =8-) .
If your intake screen isn't clear plastic , REPLACE IT RIGHT NOW before it clogs up with crap and you can't tell before the car chugs to a halt beside the road with you and SWMBO all freezing inside it .
Anyway , check the air in your tires , replace the wiper blades and so on , your Mercedes Diesel will be all ready for the upcoming Winter , it's forecasted to be a really cold and wet one so do this now , no whining ' it won't start , crappy old car ! ' later because you were too lazy to address this stuff now .

We're not talking much $ nor any really hard work .
Failure to plan is planning to fail .
