Yes *BUT* ~ you should use some sort of Diesel Fuel additive or plain old Diesel Fuel......
What you're looking for is a thin liquid that'll flow easily and have the right compression ignition characteristics .
So , using some sort of Diesel rated fuel injector cleaner would be good .
Remember to pump the black primer pump 40 + times then cycle the glow plugs twice , hold the throttle to the floor then crank and keep cranking until all five cylinders are running ~ if you let off the key it'll most likely stall out .
Once it's running , hold it to a fast idle , about the same as driving 20 MPH but keep it in neutral , let this go on for several minutes to fully bleed all the air out of the system .

Can one use alcohol to prime the secondary fuel filter on a 1980 300TD? I'm running veg oil. It really doesn't like to be charged when cold. (Never done this before)I usually do it hot. I didn't fully fill the secondary filter with fluid. Got a big bubble. Ran the battery down. Need to take the filter off fill and try again. Lawrence Rhodes
