This photo is O.K. , do I see grey colored bare wires right where the red ones go into the bigger black plastic sheath ? .
If so that's a serious problem and yes , it needs attention as the glow plugs draw their current through those unfused wires .
Maye 1.4 MM diameter ? can't use anything less nor low cost wire that doesn't have as many strands as those old crispy looking ones do as they carry a _lot_ of current .
it's possible if not likely someone held the glow plug knob out too long or that one glow plug shorted out and so drew far too much current , overheating those wires .
I don't know how to explain how to do this as a DIY repair and it's hard to find the correct high amperage wire here in the U.S.A. maybe Bill knows ? he's a whiz at finding things .
Does the starter now turn the engine ? .
This is imperative before you address if it'll actually start .
If it doesn't turn , try jumping a nigkle between the large terminal on the starter and the smaller one ~ this should instantly make the engine turn over , if you only get a ' click ' or it groans and turns very slowly , stop and take the starter apart , clean everything well , replace the brushes and solenoid , grease the various bushings lightly , re assemble and try again ~ once you have the starter working , you're ready to move on to starting the engine .
I've been away but am back now and eager to get back to work .

So I traced the battery cables to where they connect to the car and this is what I found. How do you replace these? See attachment. |
