[diesel_mercedes] Uncle Earl Scheib

No one expected much for $39.95 ~

I remember hundreds of those low quality paint jobs and as I said before : YOU had to pay attention to which shop you chose .

Yes the shine went off pretty quick but I don't recall any fading away .

"Uncle Earl" had his own paint factory.............if you want to call it paint.  Really poor quality, fades almost overnight.

Please google this , you might be surprised at how nice it can be .

Like most paint works , the end result depends directly on how much time and labor you put into it , there are some stunning $50 re sprays out there .

Might be $ 75 paint in google .

' Uncle ' Earl Sheib was much maligned in his day *but* you could get a better than average job *if* you took the time to remove the door handles , bumpers and trims etc. then personally checked the finished paint jobs as no two painters are the same , some lay it on too thick , some too thin , some overspray everything , etc. , etc.

There's plenty of $600 paint shops out there , go interview a bunch and when you find one with nice glossy freshly painted cars outside , go talk to the painter , slip him $5 and ask if he'll do you a solid and promise him and extra $50 in direct cash *if* he does , you'll usually be well pleased with the results .

DO NOT waste one minute at a shop with dull , badly ' orange peeled ' fresh paint jobs parked out front ! they will not and cannot do decent paint no matter how much $ you throw at them .

I used to love finding old abandoned ' Uncle Earl ' painted vehicles as after 10 + years the paint wa fully cured and hard as a rock , dead easy to cut , buff and polish to a mirror gloss in site of a few nicks & scratches here & there , making the fast sellers after I rebuilt the drivelines .

I saw an Earl Scheib the other day, but doubt they are $39.95 anymore.  On the other hand I saw some guy in the neighborhood do a really nice paint job using spray cans. I suspect he knew what he was doing as it turned out really nice.
