Adding my sorrow for the loss of the car and joy at the fact you're daughter's going to be ok.
As for what you put into it - you won't get it all back, but in my case, my son was hit by a careless soul while in our 1978 Saab 99 (he was fine, another amazingly engineered and safe Euro-wagen for it's vintage), which until that moment was pristine. I supplied docs and parts receipts and the like to my auto insurance company - (USAA), they paid $3300 on a car that was 36 years old. Not sure if it was the company or the car that inspired the adjuster, but amazingly, they paid and she's back on the road - and he's the beneficiary of a "learning opportunity" that couldn't have come any other way....

My '84 300SD gave it's life, for my daughter's on the 4th..
If you scroll down to 6/4, you'll see her on fire..
https://www.facebook.com/RossfordFire
My daugther was hit, spun, reflected into a guardrail... And the car caught fire..
...my daughter said she didn't even stall.. For a minute, I felt like I could drive away..
The accident is still under investigation.. (Meaning no one has been cited).
My g/f witnessed the accident.. Katie wasn't moving-- so I'm hard pressed to believe she'll be cited.
I know we go thru this "whenever" one of us loses a car, tragically...
Does having proof of parts, service-- recent paint/body work do anything, but remind us of how much we put into our cars?? I have pictures of her being taken to bare metal, and body restored last spring, for instance.. My paint and body guy, I think would be more than willing to tell them I paid him a king's fortune..
My daughter is bruised up good, and has a fibula (small bone in the calf) fracture.. She's on crutches, but VERY MUCH ALIVE... For that, I thank God..
...and Agnes.
I will miss her-- I have an '85 300SD (rustbucket) thatI was going to strip for parts...
I will have another OM617 powered SOMETHING.. I fell in love with that old "tractor motor" (as I've called it.)
My daughter helped me "change out" a brake rotor last week..
Going to miss you Agnes.
Guess heaven needs Mercedes diesels.. Hope to see you again, there! :)
...no trees were injured in the delivery of this email.
Some electrons WERE inconvenienced, however.

first and foremost, so happy your daughter is ok.
second, send some lovin to those engineers, who made that car as safe as
it is.
third, mourn, and pour a drink for a departed hero, who sacrificed it's
metal body and useful life, to save a loved one.
