The Becker Europa II radio/cassette player in my '82 300D has been broken for at least the past 8 years (as long as I've owned the car)--both the FM band and the cassette player are dead and non-responsive--and I've finally hit the saturation point of too much A.M. radio religious programming and conservative talk radio. Even a steady diet of the local all-Indian radio station (all Bollywood, all the time) has gotten old after a while.
I fully realize that the "real" solution is to send out my Becker (which already has an old and peeling Becker remanufactured label on it) to be properly rebuilt, but money is a bit tighter than I'd like at the moment, so that's not an option. I have a fancier modern receiver/CD player I can install, but I'd rather not chop up the wiring harness or give the local car thieves a reason to discover that one of my doors doesn't actually lock anymore (not a lot of money for non-critical parts at the moment).
Does anyone have a working Becker radio (cassette optional) that they'd be willing to pass along for a reasonable price? On eBay, I've seen that "as-is" prices for identical early-80s Europa radios with the cassette player can go as low as $20, including shipping, but you have no idea what you're getting. I also see a lot more Becker Grand Prix radios than the cheaper analog dial Europas--are the connections similar enough that I can just drop a W126 radio into a W123?
Thanks for any help y'all can provide!
