[diesel_mercedes] Re: PAP Visit

"Today, I paid my $2 and walked the aisles of the Monrovia / El Monte
PAP. I should have saved my $$ and stayed at home. Lots of Volvo's, a
few w126 gassers, maybe a Jaguar. But no MB diesels. Sorry, Max,
Conrad, Nate, and anyone else who was hoping. I'll be doing Ontario
and Pomona in a day or two. I was at Ontario 2 or 3 years ago when
they loaded a good 1983w123 in a new row. I took some parts, but had I
known how few and far between they would be, I would have camped out
and dismantled the whole car."

Over the last 2 years, I've seen a big decrease in the number of W123s
I see on the road these days. The cars are getting older, of course,
but I think the big and continuing price differential between gasoline
and diesel around here ($3.45 vs. $3.99, as of this morning) has
really reduced interest in people keeping these old timers up and
running.

Around these parts, there used to be lots and lots of W123s and W126s.
In the past, I used to see W123s parked in people's backyards,
waiting for a better day and/or a new owner. I just don't see that
anymore.
