My dimmer control has a wire soldered across the two ends of the element to effectively make it a "zero" resistance element in the circuit. It's been that way for 7 or 8 years. There is a picture of it in the photos I uploaded.

May sound dumb but did you evaluate the Dimmer switch. I assume you have one as all my cars do.
