I would definitely NOT change back due to the price of R-12
Keep a can of 134 and a small charge hose with you. Shoot a little in it if needed. Freon WITH stop leak is a waste of money. But there is a sealant that works well as long as it isn't the seals in the compressor going bad. It cost around $25-$30 at local auto parts stores. I don't remember the name but it is a small can, about 4 ounces or so. Instructions say Add it then immediately add some freon to clean the charge valve so it doesn't get sealed in place. The little hose that comes with the sealant works great to keep in the car to add a shot of freon when needed.

I have made it through most the Houston summer on converted R134 AC. But as summer draws down my AC is flagging in my 300CD coupe and AC recharge is in my future.

I am contemplating a return to the original R12 and wonder about the merits of going back. What is involved in a rededication to the original? Is it worth it in terms of cooling performance?
Anybody gone back homw again?
