Usually the power cord plugs in, but even with full access the heater can be difficult to remove.

Tom and I were in a Pick-A-Part the other day and stumbled across a '85 300D with factory fitted block heater ~ just the thing for the hard core Diesel Head (ahem) . sadly some boob had taken the turbo and manifolds complete , although this makes for super easy accesss , the boob had used a sawsall cut right through the various brackets supports , POWER CORD and so on......
