My tranny had been shifting from 2nd-3rd with a large flare, depending
on acceleration. After getting the vacuum adjusted in the summer,
because it was slamming and flaring, I was told the 2-3 flare was caused
by a broken spring in the valve body, which I could visualize, as I put
in a shift kit into a T-400 tranny many years ago. A shift kit usually
is made up of a set of various gauge springs and metal balls. This time,
I had the guy at Transmeister do the shift kit for a fare price. The big
flare at 2-3 is gone. If you have a flare at the 2-3 shift, it can be
fixed on the car w/o a full rebuild.
This is an old worn-used tranny that I put in 2yrs ago, with a nice long
lag when shifting into reverse (worn bands), so I'm just trying to get
it to last a few more years.
