It should have a red overpressure switch on the receiver - dryer ,this is the silver tank thing behind the right headlight .
Unless you've replaced the compressor already , it's prolly just aging out .
If it locks up , unplug the compressor underneath and begin looking for deals on new compressor , expansion valve , receiver - dryer and some AC flushing agent too as the wole system will be full of metallic paste.
R-12 ~ buy it down there now .
Once you're home you can ge the rest of the parts drop shipped , remember some good AC oil , I forget the correct brand , it works with R-12 and R-134a both .
Pag Oil ? (maybe) .
