Understood Brad ;
As I made my living fixing up old daily drivers for many years , I know how you feel , now I just have fun and save my $ by keeping my old vehicles going .
Or , maybe not , it's arguably cheaper to by a cherry $2,000 Asian thing but EWWWWWwwwwwwwwww.
You're very right about old iron being sort sold these days , I see it all the time , I used to wait for Nov. ~ Christmas to load up on cheap builders , now I know I can offer 50 % less than most folks are asking and get it but I no longer am able to work that hard =8-( .
My Shop Trucks are always American Iron , _real_ trucks that _work_ , not chrome plated V-ate monsters you canot drive / park / afford to feed etc. ~ every one is an L6 and unrestored so they're projects too .
If ever I found an affordable Bakkie , I'd be in hog heaven .

People seem to have nostalgia for the past and older cars seem to serve that need for some. So I see it as a way to have some fun and as an investment to some degree.

Recently a dealer sold a used MG-TD in moderately restored & usable condition (ie not concours by any stretch) for about $20K. I notice that Craigslist has a lot of older American iron for short money, now. When the economy comes back in full force, these will be of greater value. In a nearby city there is a guy who is offering a gasser Merc 2 door couple for $18K but no takers, so far. He is also offering at least one Shelby knock off for about $28k...no takers for it either.
