Re: [diesel_mercedes] Car wont shift into park

On a relatively cheap wear item like a bushing, you'd probably waste more time chasing it down at a PAP and end up with another worn part.  Order it from the parts supplier that will have it.  MBNA.  Your local dealer won't have it in stock, but it usually doesn't take long for them to get it.

If what Kevin needs is the part that goes at the pivot point of the shifter, then, yes, this is not that part.  I don't think the pivot bushing(s - there are two, one on each side of the shifter) are available from parts suppliers.  I had to get mine from a P-A-P.  Luckily, ANY Mercedes shifter of the vintage; gas, diesel, W123, 126, 116, 114/5, SL, has the same shifter.  And, it's kinda rare for these bushings to fail.  It should be pretty easy to come up with a good used set.

Maybe the person saying I was looking for the same thing you are was confused?

This is the little do dad that Kevin is missing...although the car shifts great without it. In fact I realized the other day when I got to drive it for the first time in 5 months, that it no longer did that horrid shaking thing when I went in reverse.

Trish,

That is confusing - it says it is for the push rod, not the shifter pivot.

It's a beast to find the way they named it..but here's the link.

Good luck.  I hope Kevin remembers to install those parts on my car.

Kevlog,

It is probably the plastic bushing.

Trish was recently having this problem.  She may can tell you the part number of the bushing.

I have a 84 300d which has not been going into park for quite a while, i have to move it to neutral to start it, otherwise it drives great.
Any idea what this is? Is it the bushing or possibly the parking pawl? I brought it to aamco and they were useless. Thanks all for your help
