I will often allow stupid questions to clutter my mind about my car. I have a collection of them, but today only have the courage to ask about two stupid questions.
These are both vacuum related and probably easy for you guys but they are not easy for me.
First up, vacuum line hose and how tight a connection needs to be. It seems that my local auto parts has two sizes for me to consider, the one that slips off of the rigid plastic piping all to easy and the second, that requires a soaking in scalding hot water before fitting, or the use of a small phillips head screw driver to stretch and wallow it out before using all of my strength to drive it on.
I am sure someone is going to tell me that Mercedes has a special size vacuum line, completely unlike anything you can buy in a standard auto house. If that is the case, tell me so and I'll get the right stuff. I dare not miss any more vacuum leaks of any sort.
My second vacuum related stupid question is about the vacuum check valves. I have blown through all of mine, and deduced which direction they need to be positioned so that vacuum can flow from the vacuum pump to the various vacuum controlled mechanics of the car.
But, do all of the vacuum check valves flow in the direction of the vacuum pump, or are some of them positioned so as not to allow the pump to draw pressure.
I'll sleep better with these questions having been ask. I have lots of other stupid questions but my ego will only allow for so many of these at one time.
