Yes, and that would be me! I ordered the rebuild kit from Mercedessource to rebuild the turbo on my '79 300SD. After a series of fits and starts over the course of about 3 months, finally got it done but obviously didn't do it very well. After 300 miles it gave up the ghost. Loud whirring sound then kaput! Not working at all now.
Luckily I have another ready to go (original) but now I need to take it all back apart again and reinstall the original (rebuilt the one off my '80 300SD parts car.
Not driving the car at all now, read to many horror stories about runaway diesels due to oil in the intake and metal shavings in the pan.
Other than that...fun times. Car is (was) running great.
